Conceived as a city-wide mobile prelude, four lines brought together some of Toronto’s most innovative improvisers: Rob Clutton (double bass), Nilan Perera (guitar + percussion), Sarah Peebles (electronics) and Barnyard Drama (Christine Duncan, vocals + Jean Martin, percussion).

1. Rob Clutton played his double bass from Grange Park, below the AGO, heading north.
2. Christine Duncan and Jean Martin of Barnyard Drama sang and played along Philosopher’s Walk, following the green spaces southwards.
3. Sarah Peebles rode a pedicab from La Palette Restaurant (256 Augusta Avenue) northwards, mixing the sounds of bees and birds.
4. Wildcard guitarist Nilan Perera arrived via Toronto’s subway system, stealing sounds along the way.

At the Donnelly Centre the artists performed throughout the space – on wooden platforms in the enormous bamboo grove, from overhanging balconies, nestled in the intersecting curves of two intricately tiled walls.

four lines was curated by urbanvessel’s Christie Pearson and Juliet Palmer and funded in part by the Laidlaw Foundation.
