thoughts, running

Thoughts, running (in development) connects the inner and outer worlds of three musicians who run: cellist Amahl Arulanandam, flutist Sara Constant and clarinetist Anthony Thompson.

Running, alone with our thoughts, we open ourselves to fear, grief, and despair. But running may also release us from anxiety, returning us to the present moment and the joy of being alive. As performers, this state of flow is a familiar one — the sense of self dissolves, moving and breathing become one with the music. “Thoughts, running” highlights this relationship between breath, pulse, training and performance, and how these in turn alter sound production and states of mind and emotion.
